'The Comedy Of Errors' & 'Richard III'
venue
Derby Playhouse
Dates
25th February - 9th March 1963
Directors
Dennis Eddowes & Kenneth Collier
As was the custom at the time in 1963 we presented our 'Shakespeare Festival' - two back-to-back productions in consecutive weeks at the old Derby Playhouse in Sacheveral Street. 1963 would mark the first time this was done as the Derby Shakespeare Society after our change from being the Derby Branch of the British Empire Shakespeare Society.
Another first came in the form of 'The Comedy Of Errors', this being the first time we had ever produced this play. No doubt its farcical comic nature would have been a contrast to 'Richard III' which followed it for the second half of the festival, thus showcasing two different but equally excellent sides of our newly-renamed group.
We hope to be able to add more information and photographs from this production soon.
