Our 75th Anniversary
In 1984 our company, which was then called the Derby Shakespeare Society, celebrated 75 years of performing in Derby.
A commemorative booklet was produced to mark the occasion, as well as souvenir programmes for our two wonderful productions, 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in March and 'The Comedy Of Errors' in November, both of which proved great successes with audience and perfect onstage celebrations of the society's history and accomplishments.
The booklet, written by our longstanding member and former chairman Dennis Eddowes, called 'Strange Eventfull Historie' told the story of the first 75 years of Derby Shakespeare Society. From its beginnings as the British Empire Shakespeare Society (Derby Branch) to its glorious 75th year.

Our 50th Anniversary
On the 26th of September 1958 our Golden Jubilee was marked by a special celebratory dinner.
An anniversary booklet entitled 'What Players Are They?' was written by our Secretary A. A. Dean to commemorate the occasion and tell the story of the society from it's beginnings in 1908.
As was the custom at the time, two plays were staged that year as a 'Shakespeare Festival' in back-to-back weeks during February. The plays produced for this momentous year were 'The Merchant Of Venice' & 'Henry V'.
