“My friend Serge has bought a painting. It’s a canvas about five foot by four: white. The background is white and, if you screw up your eyes, you can make out some fine white diagonal lines.”

These opening lines describe a simple act which exposes fault-lines in the long-standing relationships between three friends and we soon realise that a play which at first, seems to be concerned with attitudes to modern art - is really about profound issues of friendship and identity.
